Emo: Hello guys, for those out their that dont know who you are, can you please introduce yourselves?
Luke: Hi. My name is Luke Sowersby. I live in Bridlington, East Yorkhire, and i also recently turned 20. At the moment, i'm studying electronic engineering at Hull University. On the gaming side of things, I play for the Team Infused MW2 team and have been playing competitively for just over 2 years.
Ash: Hey, I'm Ashley Sowersby, 19 years old, from a town in East Yorkshire called Bridlington. At the moment, I am currently studying a degree in Police and Community Studies aswell as working part-time at a Supermarket. I currently co-lead the infused MW2 team with my brother Luke, also consisting our 2 new members BisseLL and VaPeZ.
Emo: Hello guys, for those out their that dont know who you are, can you please introduce yourselves?
Luke: Hmmm... I got full marks on an A level Maths exam is the first thing that comes to mind. Not sure if that’s interesting though lol.
Ash: Been to Silverstone F1 Grand Prix 9 times, haven't been for the last 2 races though.
Emo: Can you give us both a brief background history of your gaming careers?
Luke: I got my first Xbox over 3 years ago, and started off playing racing games casually. Upon the release of CoD4, my brother and I decided to make our own team called Squadra Recon, in order to enter the completive scene. With this being our first competitive, I feel we picked the game up relatively quickly, and team slowly began to make a name for itself. Despite a run of consistent placements we never we made the mark we wanted on the community, but UKeSA was when we began to show what we were capable of, after settling down with a strong squad. We then joined Team Infused, and from that point onwards we continued our high placement across various tournaments, with the most notable being winning the EGL LAN. Onto MW2, we were slow off the mark as we never got a settled team, but now we will be looking to produce the results we achieved towards to end of CoD4.
Ash: I have been gaming competitively for around 2 years now. I only really got going on the release of CoD4 with our old team, SqR - Squadra Recon. We made many achievements online along the way, eventually attend our first LAN at the Xleague Studio were we placed 2nd. We then attended XL5 and XL6 on with SqR which seems like a long time ago from now placing well. Time passed by for the CoD4 community with no LAN for 1 year, until EGL came round after the cancelation of the next XL event. This was our first LAN under the infused name after joining them, and with it being the final LAN for CoD4, and the first major LAN to have online classes; it was a highly anticipated event. We finished 1st place and ended what had been a great competitive title for our team under infused. MW2 came round and our team parted ways for different reasons, leading to roster troubles from the start. It affected us for GameStop significantly early on, but from there on we got our team sorted, managing to reach the CG MW2 tournament finals and have now settled with a solid roster for the first time on the new title.
Emo: You started out playing racing games, is that your true passion or is FPS?
Luke: I'd have to say i've always enjoyed FPS games alot more. I started out on Forza Motorsport 2, but the competitive community is non-existent, so i only play racing games casually. If the Forza 3 scene was to kick off or maybe appear at ECL, then i'd definatley look into playing it alongside MW2.
Ash: We both played alot of Forza, Luke took it alot more seriously than i did though and we started SqR out with the racing team. I have always been into racing games, but there is just not enough of a competitve LAN scene for console racing games in Europe for either of us to put much time into it. Although i love my racing games, i enjoy FPS games more i'd say.
Emo: You guys started off FPS with CoD4 and over time became one of the best teams, culminating in the win at EGL Manchester. Why do you think it took so long to get to the top?
Luke: I think it was mainly down to experience. At the beginning of CoD4, I think we were easily one of the best ‘newcomer’ teams, seeing as none of us had ever played any game competitively beforehand. We slowly began to learn what it took to win, and about how competitive gaming worked at the top level. Looking back now to when we began CoD4, it’s unbelievable how little we knew. Another pointer is...that we learned everything ourselves as we’ve always led our teams and never played under more experienced players than ourselves, so I think in the long run it made us stronger.
Ash: Well we were brand new to competitve FPS from the start of CoD4, and with teams having experience from similar titles already, we were at a major disadvantage knowledge wise. We had been with the SqR team for a long time from the start moving up as a team and eventually parted ways. With that myself and Luke seemed to just progress further eventually joining infused. From there we went on very strong going undefeated online towards the build up of EGL were we also went on victorious. We never seemed to take a step back, we always seemed to move forwards and when i look back i think we both did great to say it was our first ever competitive FPS.
